Woodstock 50, set to take place from Aug. 16-18 in Watkins Glen, N.Y., has officially been cancelled.

In a press release on July 31, the event’s original co-founder, Michael Lang, said it was “impossible” to stage the event after its many setbacks.

“We are saddened that a series of unforeseen setbacks has made it impossible to put on the Festival we imagined with the great line-up we had booked and the social engagement we were anticipating,” Lang said.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros was slated to perform on Aug. 17. The star-studded lineup also included Jay-Z, The Killers, Janelle Monae, Maggie Rogers, Chance the Rapper, Leon Bridges, Brandi Carlile, Lumineers, Imagine Dragons, Greta Van Fleet, Gary Clark Jr., Portugal. The Man, Dawes, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats and Robert Plant.

In April, Woodstock 50’s financial partner Dentsu Aegis Network made the decision to pull out of the festival.

“We have yet to understand why they would try to prevent the festival from happening by seemingly undermining us in this way,” Lang said. “It is one thing to decide for oneself that it is best to move on, but it is entirely another thing to try and close the door on us.”

Lang said despite the announcement, he looked for a way to do “some good rather than just cancel.”

“We formed a collaboration with HeadCount to do a smaller event at the Merriweather Pavilion to raise funds for them to get out the vote and for certain NGOs involved in fighting climate change,” Lang said.
