Woodstock-50-Flyer-2019-600x600Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ return tour will kick off with a performance at Woodstock 50 – the 50th anniversary of the historic music festival.

The star-studded lineup also features Jay-Z, The Killers, Janelle Monae, Maggie Rogers, Chance the Rapper, Leon Bridges, Brandi Carlile, Lumineers, Imagine Dragons, Greta Van Fleet, Gary Clark Jr., Portugal. The Man, Dawes, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats and Robert Plant. The festival will be held in Watkins Glen, N.Y., from Aug. 16-18. Edward Sharpe is scheduled to perform during the second night, Saturday. Aug. 17.

After a three-year hiatus, the band announced last month they would return for a handful of shows, which (for now) also includes a stop at the Bourbon & Beyond Festival on Sunday, Sept. 22, in Louisville, Kentucky.

ESMZ also announced plans for a remastered, re-release of “Up From Below” that coincides with the 10th anniversary of the release of the album.

“It’s crazy to me that it’s been 10 years,” ESMZ frontman Alex Ebert told Janglin Souls. “What’s even more amazing to me is how that album has continued to grow. To see how much it means to people — it’s like a dream. As an artist you always want to make something like that that lives on and on. What it really does is make me think about the days of making that album, the journey leading up to the writing of it, everyone involved, the camaraderie, buying the bus, everyone taking the leap, some of us quitting our jobs and jumping into this adventure full throttle. There was a time where we didn’t have a label to put it out, and our faith never wavered, it just got stronger.”

Tickets for Woodstock 50 will go on sale April 22 and can be purchased through the festival’s website. The lineup includes several musicians who played at the original Woodstock festival back in 1969, including Carlos Santana, John Fogerty, Melanie and David Crosby and Dead & Company (representing the Grateful Dead).

“The original festival in ’69 was a reaction by the youth of the time to the causes we felt compelled to fight for — civil rights, women’s rights, and the antiwar movement, and it gave way to our mission to share peace, love and music,” Woodstock co-founder Michael Lang said in a press release. “Today, we’re experiencing similar disconnects in our country, and one thing we’ve learned is that music has the power to bring people together. So, it’s time to bring the Woodstock spirit back, get involved and make our voices heard.”

Woodstock 50 will be held on 1,000 acres of greenfield at Watkins Glen International and the surrounding area, and feature three main stages of music. The music festival supports organizations such as Conservation International, March for Our Lives, HeadCount and the Happy Hippie Foundation.

Each main stage for Woodstock is named for themes of that original event: Peace, Love and Music. Edward Sharpe is slated for the Love Stage.
