We first met Joe McCord in October 2013 during Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ four-day Big Top circus and music festival at Los Angeles Historic Park.

Even though the Sharpies bought tickets to see ESMZ, there were long lines of fans waiting outside of his tent each night, waiting to find some tarot answers from “Joe Daddy, the Gypsy Fortunate Teller.”

Now, Joe Daddy needs your help. He was recently diagnosed with cancer of the bladder and has undergone two major surgeries. He is awaiting two more surgeries.

For those who don’t know Joe, he is a selfless, one-of-a-kind soul with an infectious laugh and amazing spirit. His son Orpheo is a percussionist with the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

In the 60s and 70s, Joe mastered an art form called pantozique — which he describes as “a marriage and synchronization of mime, music and satire.” He’s worked with such musicians as The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd and Van Morrison, and had plans to work with his close friend Jimi Hendrix. He most recently wrote and co-starred in an award-winning short film called “The Butterfly, The Harp & The Timepiece,” which can be seen on Vimeo.

The cost of ongoing treatment is going to be a tremendous financial burden for Joe and his family, so any financial donation is greatly appreciated. I believe it is important that we step up and provide some financial relief so Joe can heal without the worry of debt on his shoulders. I know he will be deeply grateful for any and all donations.
