Q: What were some of your initial inspirations in creating the tour poster artwork for the May 5, 2012 Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros show from Santa Barbara?
A: The band, music, the live performance aspect and outdoor environment of the venue.

Q: What were you trying to convey in your ESMZ poster?
A: I wanted the poster to be tactile and a little bit silly with a splash of magic. Also unique and unexpected, like a strange poster you’d find at a garage sale. A special dusty relic, from another world and time. That’s where the googly eyes came in — 4,700 of them. All hand glued! Huge thanks to my girlfriend Margaux for helping with those. Also a shout-out to Henry Lannan for lending a hand with the lettering.

Q: Describe your creative process for interpreting and transforming music into a poster art?
A: Usually I listen to the music and collect inspiration and let it simmer for a few days. Eventually ideas start to formulate. From there it’s just execution, revision and refining.

Q: Were you a fan of ESMZ before you were asked to create the poster art?
A: I wasn’t that familiar. But it was fun being new to the music, exploring and seeing where it took me.

Q: How did you get into creating poster art for musicians?
A: A Friends in bands, DJs and promoter buddies. When they started and needed artwork I stepped up. We’ve all grown from there.
