JadeJade Castrinos is currently off Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero’s summer U.S. tour. The longtime ESMZ vocalist posted on her Instagram page on Monday:

“For seven years, I sang and wrote music with Edward Sharpe. They voted me off tour week before they left, via email. lol.”

The band posted the following response on its Facebook page:

“Anyone on here who thinks the story could be as terribly and flatly painted as Jade conveniently did has no idea what this band has always been about. It’s a shame to think anyone would comment anything other than a hope that it heals. If you think we came to this decision suddenly or as some form of punishment you have no idea who we are. If you think that email to Jade was not sent 30 seconds after a meeting WITH jade and the band but out of the blue – you have no idea who we are. If you don’t think we spent years trying to heal this very issue as a group, together – years trying to help correct this, love this until it was right, sometimes flailing and other times sailing, but always – you have no idea who we are.

Yet if you do not know that sometimes people must be unwilling to allow a continuation of old patterns to make a change for the better – you simply have not yet lived long enough.

I hope you all do not continue to speculate ignorantly. It is beneath you and it is grotesquely damaging.”

Frontman Alex Ebert also responded with a post on the ESMZ’ Facebook page:

“Jade has spoken out about not being on this tour. Her statement left a lot of things to the imagination. Out of respect for Jade, I will keep it that way. … Only we must now explain that simply and sadly, we did not feel right doing this tour with Jade. That fact breaks my heart in ways I don’t want to describe. With hope with all of ourselves that we reunite with Jade again, free-spirited, and with that daring love that is our only foundation. Love for you all.”

While we understand that the news is shocking and upsetting for fans, we at Janglin Souls feel it is important that the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros community be loving and supportive, and we all need to trust and respect the band during this time.

On a positive note, tomorrow night is the premiere of Nora Kirkpatrick’s new TV show, Jennifer Falls. In October, ESMZ announced that it was parting ways with Kirkpatrick, who chose to pursue her acting career. Kirkpatrick joins Joel David Moore (Avatar), Jessica Walter (Arrested Development) and Jaime Pressly in the TV Land single-camera comedy. The TV show airs tomorrow night at 9:30 CT. Kirkpatrick’s performance at Big Top in October was her last performance with the band. Although she is stepping away from the band, Kirkpatrick remains active in the band’s charity, Big Sun Foundation, of which she is a board member.

  1. Whether I am logically entitled to be or not, I am so upset by this. I sure hope they can work things out by the next leg of the tour. As things stand now, as Kristie Rohwedder (of Bustle dot com) said, watching “Home” just makes me cry.

  2. Whatever the reason for omitting Jade, they desperately need to find female vocals to replace Jade and Nora. The show in chicago was seriously lacking without female voices and the band could not play some of their best songs because of it. It was disappointing.

  3. sad to hear jade n nora left,, something missing in this band,,,hopely still makes a gud music
